First ‘Green Certification’ in Naperville goes to a home built by local builder

C.T. Schillerstrom Construction, Inc. received the first National Green Building Certification for a home built in Naperville. This home received the gold, which is the highest of three levels.

According to the National Association of Home Builders, which sponsors the National Green Building Program, green homes incorporate environmental considerations and resource efficiency into every step of the building and development process to minimize environmental impact.

The process of certification includes hiring a certified green verifier and following the guidelines developed through the NAHB green building checklist. Builders register their projects on the www.nahbgreen.org Web site and track seven areas of concentration: lot preparation, resource efficiency, water efficiency, energy efficiency, indoor environment quality, operations/maintenance/homeowner education, and global impact. There are also a series of inspections conducted throughout the home’s construction.

Some of the benefits of a green home include: building with recycled products; implementing a recycling process throughout the home’s construction that dramatically eliminates scrap materials, thereby reducing waste being sent to a landfill; building an eco-friendly home where energy bills should be 40 percent less; increased comfort with better humidity control, fewer drafts and even temperatures throughout the home; using materials with fewer chemicals; and using materials that require minimal maintenance.

Builder Curt Schillerstrom said the 3,700 square foot home recently sold and that the new homeowners are pleased with the fact that it is green certified. “They also loved the quality craftsmanship and said it was the best they had seen,” he added.

Wi-Fi Network is back in downtown Naperville!

The City of Naperville announced Friday that it has successfully reactivated the
Wireless Fidelity (“Wi-Fi”) network that was launched as a pilot program in the downtown area in 2007. Residents and visitors can use the network to obtain information about downtown shops and restaurants and other community-related activities.

The area covered by the Wi-Fi network reaches approximately from Douglas Avenue/School Street in the north to Martin Avenue in the south and Ewing Street/West Street in the west to Wright Street in the east. The coverage map is available on the city’s Web site at www.naperville.il.us/emplibrary/wifimap.pdf.

In 2007, the City of Naperville contracted with MetroFi to provide a free Wi-Fi network to the downtown area. The launch of the network was well received by users. However, MetroFi’s management changed hands and the new company attempted to
change the terms of the contract they negotiated with the city, resulting in a
significant investment of taxpayer dollars. The city opted instead to
investigate other options. MetroFi, claiming that removal costs would be too
great, abandoned the equipment that they had set up throughout the downtown
area.

Instead of removing the equipment, the city teamed up with WOW Access (not
affiliated with Wide Open West, one of the city’s franchise cable partners) to
again provide wireless Web connectivity to residents, businesspeople and other
visitors to downtown Naperville. The network was unofficially reactivated in April of
this year for a cost of $7,000.

“We are exploring ways to support public safety, create efficiencies in city
services and realize cost-savings, while also providing a valuable service to our
residents, businesses and visitors,” Telecommunications Manager Dan Voiland
said.

As with any wireless system, the network is open-access and users should take precautions for online security, including turning off file-sharing, establishing a
firewall and using anti-virus software.

A municipal wireless network allows city mobile workers, such as building inspectors, to be more efficient, provides new evidence gathering tools for police and fire, supports traffic monitoring and management and delivers free Wi-Fi to the city’s residents, local businesses and visitors.

Don’t Ever Dial Area Code 809

ABOUT AREA CODE 809

We actually received a call last week from the 809 area
code. The woman said ‘Hey, this is Karen . Sorry I
missed you–get back to us quickly. I Have something
important to tell you..’ Then she repeated a phone
number beginning with 809 . ‘We didn’t
respond’

Then this week, we received the following e-mail:

Subject: DON’T DIAL AREA
CODE 809 , 284 AND 876

THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION PROVIDED TO US BY
AT&T.. DON’T DIAL AREA CODE 809

This one is being distributed all over the US . This
is pretty scary, especially given the way they try to get
you to
call.

Be sure you read this and pass it on.
They get you to call by telling you that it is information
about a family member who has been ill or to tell you
someone has-been arrested, died, or to let you know you u
have won a wonderful prize, etc.
In each case, you are told to call the 809 number right a
way. Since there are so many new area codes these days,
people unknowingly return these calls.

If you call from the US , you will apparently be
charged $2425 per-minute.

Or, you’ll get a long recorded message. The point is,
they will try to keep you on the phone as long as possible
to increase the charges. Un fortunately, when you get your
phone bill, you’ll often be charged more
than $24,100.00

WHY IT
WORKS:

The 809 area code is located in the Dominican
Republic.. They are not regulated by the US laws.

The charges afterward can become a real nightmare..
That’s because you did actually make the call. If you
complain, both your local phone company and your long
distance carrier will not want to get involved and will most
likely tell you that they are simply providing the billing
for the foreign company. You’ll end up dealing with a
foreign company that argues they have done nothing wrong.

Please forward this entire mess age to your friends, family
and colleagues to help them become aware of this scam

codes can be found
